“Rainbow Covenant” Inclusive Worship Service Successfully Held, Spreading the Message of “No Fear in Love”
Hong Kong, November 22, 2025 – The “Rainbow Covenant – Action for a Queer-Friendly Church” successfully held an inclusive worship service today at Kowloon Union Church titled “No Fear in Love.” This service aimed to create an environment where Christians of all sexual orientations and gender identities can feel equality, acceptance, and inclusion, and to praise God’s diverse and wonderful creation together on the special occasion of Christ the King Sunday.
The worship was co-organized by the El-Roi-Hineni Community Church and led by several clergy and lay leaders from different denominations, including celebrant Rev. Dr. Sharon Pulou, preacher Father Peter Chan, and Dr. Kung Lap Yan. They led the congregation to reflect on and celebrate the unity in diversity of God through hymns, prayers, sharing, and communion.
The theme of this worship service was “No Fear in Love,” responding to the fear and misunderstanding of sexual minorities in the current society and within the church. In the prayer, the congregation acknowledged that ignorant fear can cause harm and prayed for God’s mercy and healing, so that love and acceptance can overcome fear.
Rev. Dr. Sharon Pulou, the convener of the “Rainbow Covenant” action, shared in the worship: “We believe that everyone, regardless of their color, gender, language, sexual orientation, or identity, is loved by God. The church, as the body of Christ, should be a home where everyone can find love and a sense of belonging.”
During the sharing session, student Li Yuk-ching and student Lam Kin bravely shared their life stories, witnessing their struggles and hopes on their faith journey. Their sharing touched everyone present and deepened everyone’s understanding of the importance of building a friendly church together.
The entire worship service was conducted in a solemn and warm atmosphere, and finally concluded with the congregation receiving communion and blessing one another. The “Rainbow Covenant” hopes that through this worship service, it can arouse the attention of more churches and believers to work together to make the church a truly friendly, open, and inclusive community for all.
